What customers say?

“ We stumbled upon this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised with the quality and flavour of the food at Bar Shozan. We ordered so much food because we had to try everything on the menu. The portions were pretty small and it can be pretty pricey however, its quality over quantity here. Definitely get the chicken karaage, pork belly, and Hamachi crudo. I will definitely have to come back! ”

“ This Ossington gem is SOOOO freaking good. We ordered the pork belly yakiton, tebasaki wings, pork gyoza, chicken karaage, eggplant miso dengaku and the mentaiko mayo fries. We literally had to stop ourselves from ordering more - everything was so deliciously prepared and mouthwatering. Definitely coming back to try the seafood! ”

“ It’s a good Japanese restaurant around the area! The food price is reasonable (like 30-40 per person), and the flavor is good! I like the squid tempura, the seafood with corn croquette, and the pork skewer. The mackel sushi is also nice. If you don’t like to eat carbs, this is a good place for you. Most dishes are meat and vege. Their washroom is also big and clean, although you have to go downstairs to access it. I think the servers are Japanese (and they are very nice, especially the old lady) so this is rather authentic. ”

“ I made a reservation here to celebrate my friend’s birthday and now Shozan is my favorite izakaya in town. With an extensive sake selection and many non-alcoholic options, this bar caters to all audiences. I had Yamagata Masamune sake 山形正宗 - a beautiful blend of crisp and mellow - by far the best sake I’ve ever had. My friend had a sweet and refreshing non-alcoholic yuzu drink imported from Japan. We had the pork belly skewers, chicken kara-age and fries with Mentaiko mayo (so good oh my god) the food was excellent and *locally sourced * I also ordered Goma-ae veggies. Delicious. A menu made for epicureans. Just when I thought things couldn't get any better, the lovely lady who served us surprised my friend with a slice of birthday matcha cheesecake! The business is family owned and you can tell the crafmanship and eye for detail that is invested into this heart-warming Ossington bar. Overall an amazing experience. ”

“ My friend and I ordered some light food here, but we were completely blown away by the taste. I’m not exactly sure what the dish in the photo is called, but it was absolutely delicious. The meat patty in the middle was tender and juicy—possibly the best sandwich I’ve ever had. The server, who seemed to be a gentleman from Japan, was incredibly polite and even walked us to the door to open it for us when we left. I really liked him. I’ll definitely be coming back! ”

“ Most of the food was pretty good. More of a date spot for couples. Youll need a reservation or you could be waiting for a while during peak hours ”

“ I cannot say enough good stuff about this place. The server was absolutely lovely - he was so polite and welcoming it was heartwarming. The food was fantastic! Plate after plate was an absolute hit, with each bite you could tell the care and attention that went into making the food. Everything tasted fresh and light, I felt full in the best way possible This is going to become a staple for me whenever I visit Toronto. ”

- Elyshia John -

“ The dishes were flavourful and well-executed for the majority of the dishes, and the service and restaurant’s atmosphere with the decor made a pleasant dining experience. However, the portions were quite small, and the prices felt steep. We ordered seven tapas for two people, and we left feeling hungry.. The bill including drinks came to almost a total of a hundred dollars per person. ”
